The Department of Botany & Plant Sciences at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for an Assistant- or Associate-level Specialist position in Cooperative Extension in the area of horticultural research and extension. This fiscal year appointment position is available January 1, 2019, with a 90% Cooperative Extension and 10% Organized Research tenure track appointment in the Agricultural Experiment Station (http://cnas.ucr.edu/about/aes/), which includes the responsibility to conduct research and outreach relevant to the mission of the California Agricultural Experiment Station. The position will be housed at the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) Lindcove Research and Extension Center in Exeter, California.
The position’s responsibilities focus on maximizing citrus production and improving its efficiency as ongoing and new challenges emerge. Examples of issues important to citrus include the impact of huanglongbing and other emerging diseases, the effects of drought, salinity and climate change, labor/mechanization issues and the optimization of new varieties. We seek a specialist who will: 1) develop an internationally recognized and extramurally funded basic and applied citrus horticultural research program based on a needs assessment. 2) Provide leadership in planning and coordination of extension education in citrus horticulture for growers, CE Farm Advisors and the general public. 3) Collaborate with a wide range of UC colleagues, including UC ANR workgroups and Program Teams, CE Farm Advisors and Specialists, UC Agricultural Experiment Station faculty and other regional, national and international experts in the fields of horticulture, pest management and environmental quality.
