Deborah Giraud, Farm and Community Development Advisor for UCCE-Humboldt/Del Norte, works with landowners and agriculture industries to help them gain new sources of revenue through development of agriculture, nature, and heritage tourism. Agriculture, nature, and heritage tourism is a rapidly growing industry and can be approached in a variety of ways, from one-time events to continuing services or activities on your farm or ranch. With the help from a grant from the Headwaters Fund, Deborah works with the Humboldt County Convention and Visitors Bureau to produce an agritourism map and website where visitors can learn more about what is available in our region.
Recent projects include a workshop with keynote speaker Darren Schmall, the pizza farmer, and a hands-on tour of several operations in Loleta. More events are planned, so please contact us if you are interested!
Are you interested in Ag Tourism? A group of farmers and ranchers are exploring ways to start ag tourism opportunities. Please call 707-445-7351 and let us know your interests. We have a book and other resources here at the office.
