This position is located in Parlier, CA at the Kearney Agricultural Research & Extension Center.

The University of California, Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR), a statewide program with local development and delivery, is seeking an Area Cooperative Extension (CE) specialist to provide regional leadership in the area of agricultural engineering extension and applied research with a focus on spray application engineering. The primary goal of this position is to improve agricultural productivity while reducing the impact of pesticides and other agricultural chemicals on the environment. Perennial specialty crops such as almond, pistachio, walnuts, citrus, stone fruit and grape will be the production systems of primary focus.

The CE specialist will be responsible for developing new, and evaluating existing, practices and technologies in agricultural engineering to benefit agricultural production through improvements in the efficacy and/or efficiency of various cropping systems, with a focus on pest and disease management, and to minimize the impact of agricultural practices and materials on air and water quality. The CE specialist will have a key role in leadership and coordination of UC spray application engineering, working with ag engineering departments at the Davis and Merced campuses and other appropriate research groups in efforts to maximize benefit to stakeholders and all Californians. 

ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS: All UC ANR CE specialists are responsible for performance in the areas of 1) applied research and creative activity, 2) extension of knowledge and information, 3) professional competence and activity and 4) University and public service.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A minimum of a Ph.D. Degree with a background in agricultural engineering with a preferred emphasis on spray application technology and/or machinery design is required by the appointment start date. Demonstrated excellence in applied agricultural research and extension is highly desirable. The ability to build partnerships and to work with multidisciplinary teams to address production and environmental challenges is required. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are required. The CE specialist must possess or obtain a Qualified Pesticide Applicator Certificate (QAC) or License prior to applying or supervising the application of any pesticide.
