Investigating Bovine Respiratory Disease

Preliminary analysis along the North Coast has yielded data that shows dairy breed (Jerseys) and group housing may lead to increased BRD occurrence, whereas age of calf, geographic region, organic vs conventional management, and sex of calf did not show significant results. Future analysis of 10,000 calves across the state should provide additional insight and will likely identify management factors that are harder to detect at smaller scales.
