Forestry Institute for Teachers

The week-long program, which takes place in the summer, brings together natural resource specialists and teachers from rural and urban settings, working side by side to gain a deeper understanding of the intricate relationships between forest ecosystems and human use of natural resources. FIT seeks to provide balanced, science-based education vital to the understanding of how decisions are made about management of forests and the natural resources upon which humans depend. The environment becomes the basis for integrated learning around many subject areas, including environmental science, physical science, social science, biology, forestry, and history. Since 1994, roughly 700 teachers have participated in the Humboldt FIT program! To learn more, visit forestryinstitute.org.
